Inspector H.I.Story Investigates

Year 7

During Year 7 you will be answering the following question.

"How did England evolve as a nation state?"

This will involve studying the Medieval period. We will start with the Norman Conquest and see how William the Conqueror managed to make himself king. After this we will see what he did to ensure that he stayed king.

Once this has been achieved we go onto look at the main events of the time. Sometimes we will work on line. At other times we will use textbooks, drama and model making to help us understand this exciting and sometimes bloodthirsty period of our history.

You will go on two field trips. The first is shortly after you arrive at the College when we go to investigate Norwich Cathedral. The second trip is at the end of the Summer Term when we go to Mountfitchet Castle.

The Whole course is on line so if you miss a lesson or homework you can check what you have to do.

Year 9

The question for this year year will be.

"Did we learn anything from the c20th?"

The three themes that you will be looking at are:

  1. Has technology changed warfare?
  2. Are people more tolerant?
  3. Do people put country and self interest first?

To answer these questions we will study events pre 1914 which will include the suffragettes and the origins of the First World War.

The First World War will be a major topic in the first term and this will be followed by the origins of the Second World War and the main events of the Second World War. A key part of this will be a detailed study of the Holocaust.

We will conclude the year with a look at some of the post 1945 world events.
